Sarah Nandudu

Sarah Nandudu is Vice Chairperson of the National Slum Dwellers Federation of Uganda (NSDFU) and Deputy Chair of the Board of Slum Dwellers International (SDI). She also participates in Bring Amber Court Members to Unite (BAMU), a savings group in Jinja, Uganda. Ms. Nandudu was a member of a Habitat III Policy Unit working group tasked with formulating policies in the lead-up to the Conference, the first community leader from Uganda ever to participate in such a group.

My perspective on transforming settlements of the urban poor is that such change should be a community- and women-centred process, in order to realize sustainability and bottom-up ownership. Transformation should involve mobilizing and sensitizing slum dwellers to understand the importance of change.
