Patrick Hayford

Patrick Hayford is Director of the United Nations Office of the Special Adviser on Africa. He also served as Director for African Affairs at the Executive Office of the Secretary-General (1999-2005), a member of the Commonwealth Observer Mission for South Africa's Second Multiparty Elections (1999) and Ambassador of Ghana to South Africa (1997-1999).

Even before formally assuming office, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon had already made it very clear, in a series of public statements, that Africa would be among his highest priorities.
