James T. Campbell

James T. Campbell is professor of American Civilization, Africana Studies and History at Brown University. From 2003 to 2006, he served as chair of Brown's Steering Committee on Slavery and Justice. His most recent book, Middle Passages: African American Journeys to Africa,1787-2006, received the Mark Lynton History Prize and was a finalist for the 2007 Pulitzer Prize in History.

In April I had the privilege of participating in a scholarly panel at the United Nations, one in a series of events sponsored by the CARICOM Secretariat to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade by the legislatures of the United States and Great Britain.
