Hilario G. Davide, Jr.

Ambassador Hilario G. Davide, Jr. is the Permanent Representative of the Philippines to the United Nations. A former Chief Justice of the Philippine Supreme Court, he was an educator, legislator and presidential adviser before his appointment as his country's top diplomat to the UN. Mr. Davide is a recipient of the Ramon Magsaysay Award, the Asian equivalent of the Nobel Prize, for his accomplishments in government service.

The mission of the United Nations to carve out a safe, prosperous and just world from the ashes of the Second World War remains today an urgent global undertaking. For the past 61 years of its existence, the Organization's major organs contributed significantly, and greatly, to this end.
