Douglas Alexander

Douglas Alexander is the Secretary of State for International Development of the United Kingdom. He was previously Secretary of State for Transport and Secretary of State for Scotland. He also served as Minister of State for Europe, Minister for Trade, Investment and Foreign Affairs, and Minister for e-Commerce and Competitiveness at the Department for Trade and Industry. In 2003, he became Minister for the Cabinet Office, where, among other things, he led the Government's better regulation agenda, public and civil service reform and e-government.

At the UN Millennium Summit in 2000, the international community declared it would spare no effort to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which included halving global poverty, getting all the world's children into school, reducing infant and maternal mortality, and providing clean water and sanitation.
