Abdoulie Janneh

Abdoulie Janneh is the Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Africa. Since joining ECA, he has taken steps to reposition the Commission to better support Africa's development agenda and has overseen the articulation of the ECA Business Plan 2007-2009 to operationalize the new strategic vision. Mr. Janneh has served as UN Development Programme (UNDP) Regional Director for Africa and as Resident Coordinator and Resident Representative in Ghana and Niger.

The midpoint to achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) -- the time-bound and quantified targets, agreed by world leaders at the 2000 Millennium Summit, for improving the human condition and ensuring gender equality and environmental sustainability -- was reached in September 2007.
